Athens, Greece 1978 - Constantine Manos

This photograph is an iconic shot by the celebrated Greek-American photographer Constantine Manos, taken at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, Greece, in 1978. 

The image depicts two young children sitting affectionately together on the top step of a winner's podium. Rather than celebrating an athletic competition, they look out towards the empty, sprawling marble tiers of the stadium. 

The historic Panathenaic Stadium (also known as Kallimarmaro), the world's only stadium built entirely of marble and the historic venue of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
